9/28/2012: Looks vs. 47%?

As this being my first blog post on blogger, I am going to cut right to the chase; Are the looks of a president more important then the opinions of the American people? Let's look at what has been going on the recent weeks in our WONDERFUL yet slightly sad and extremely drawn out presidential election. An election that is being fought for the American people, or for whom can have the best hair (I think sadly that may go to Romney GO HAIR DYE!).
In this election, we have been given two clear (maybe?) choices for the giant seat that pretty White House. Yet as of late, these choices have been marred in scandal and are just becoming a sheer annoyance. Starting with the obvious, Romney and the forty-seven percent. Yes, yes, I know this has been talk about a lot over the past few weeks in every media outlet known to man, but we need to look at the cold hard facts. There are two facts that come into play.
Fact number one; Romney stated in his candid behind the scenes meeting to a group of rich, snobby donors (cue New England Cape Cod accent, let's all think John Kerry) that forty-seven percent of the United States does not pay income tax and that it is not his job to worry about them. The truth is that, our Massachusetts Republican (oxymoron?) is right. According to CBS NEWS, Mitt Romney's is correct that about forty-seven percent of us did not pay income tax. Yet, (here is the kicker folks!) about two-thirds of the forty-seven percent (have i drilled into your head yet the phrase forty-seven percent?) do pay payroll taxes. So the federal government still gets there money somehow right? So Romney is fifty percent right and fifty percent wrong.
Fact number two; To be blunt, Romney may be screwed. I am not speaking as a Democrat (although I am proudly a liberal leaning new englander) or a Republican, but Romney needs to try and win the hearts and minds of the people (that forty-seven percent)  in order to try and clinch the 270 need to win the presidency. Moreover, Romney appears to not even be trying to court the lower middle class demographic. He has been more concerned with public image, looks, as well as the image of his marriage and his family then the actual election. Romney is failing to prove himself a viable candidate in the realm of a national campaign. Instead of courting the famous middle class as he has been saying the last, um, five years? Yes it has been over five years(wow, we have been dealing with this for that long?), he has been trying to improve his public image in the physical sense rather than a mental and professional one. When did the United States of America become a breeding ground for physical image? Oh right, we invented it. And this image aspect just does not affect Romney, It affects the current President as well.
As a nation, we have always considered the President and his family as royalty, at least since the dawn of the twentieth century. Since 2008 though, we have been completely and utterly obsessed with the image the Obama's present to the Office of the President. Our nation is more concerned with the fashion choices and nail color that Michelle Obama picks than fiscal responsibility and domestic policies.
It goes to show you the middle class is dying (at least Romney thinks so, hence the forty-seven percent), and our dying middle class is obsessed with public image in regards to personal matters and fashion. Way to go America!
